Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE), including Relationships and Sex Education (RSE)
It is our intent that Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE) enables our children to become healthy, independent and responsible members of society. It supports them in understanding how they are developing both personally and socially, while addressing the moral, social and cultural issues that are part of growing up.
We provide opportunities for children to learn about their rights and responsibilities and to appreciate what it means to be part of a diverse society. They are encouraged to develop their self-worth by playing a positive role in school life and contributing to the wider community, helping them to develop important lifelong skills.
Evidence shows that high-quality PSHE education has a positive impact on both academic and personal outcomes for all pupils, particularly those who are vulnerable or disadvantaged.
At Cusgarne, we deliver PSHE through the SCARF curriculum. This ensures that we meet all statutory government requirements for Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and Health Education, as well as the PSHE Association principles and outcomes. Learning is carefully sequenced through a spiral curriculum, where key themes are introduced, revisited and built upon year by year in an age-appropriate way.
The curriculum is designed to provide flexibility, allowing us to adapt delivery to meet the needs of our pupils and the context of our setting. It is structured around three core themes, which run consistently throughout the key stages.
For further information on our approach to Relationships and Sex Education (RSE), please see our Trust RSE policy and curriculum overview. The RSE lessons are delivered through the 'Growing and Changing' units.
