 Our Curriculum
Our Aims and Values:
Cusgarne School is a happy and safe place where pupils are at the heart of all we do. We ‘make the most of every moment’ and aim to provide the highest standards of education in an inclusive environment, through effective teaching and learning. We believe in the education of the ‘whole’ child and the promotion of the pupil’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is at the heart of our curriculum. This is demonstrated in our school ethos, encapsulated by the 3Cs – Commitment, Community and Curiosity.
We believe that learning should be inspiring, engaging and challenging and we aim to achieve this through a curriculum which is creative, broad, balanced and relevant. We ensure that all pupils achieve their full educational potential by developing confident learners who make progress in their learning, have a positive attitude, are proud of their achievements and are inspired to become lifelong learners.
 Intent:
Our EYFS curriculum provides an enabling environment that allows each child to develop high levels of concentration, energy and persistence. We use the Development Matters in the Early Years Foundation Stage as our key guidance to support planning.
A vital aspect in the development of essential knowledge and skills is the use of continuous provision. This allows children to use and develop key attribute, such as independence, innovation, creativity, enquiry, analysis and problem solving, throughout the year on a daily basis.
We use the National Curriculum to plan and deliver to mixed ages classes a tailored curriculum specific to the needs of our children and our local community. Â
As a school we have identified three ‘curriculum drivers’ that are embedded in our curriculum and ensure it is enriched and personalised.
Â
 They are:
Global Awareness - We believe our pupils should understand the world that is beyond their immediate doorstep. They need opportunities to experience the richness of its diversity and show they care about its management and sustainability.
Health and Well-being - We believe our pupils should have a good knowledge of mental and physical health.
Skills for Learning – We believe our pupils should be resilient, resourceful and reflective learners.
Implementation:
Our implementation is through three underpinning themes: culture, curriculum and learning.
Teachers have a clear pedagogical approach which makes up our ‘Cusgarne 10’ and ensure that pupils at Cusgarne thrive with this consistent and aligned approach. As professionals and subject leaders, we are continually drawing on current research to develop our curriculum further.
Impact:
The impact of our curriculum is evident in the excellent behaviour and positive attitudes demonstrated across the school. Pupils show genuine care for the well-being of one another and make meaningful contributions to our school and the wider community.
Through our curriculum all pupils develop the essential knowledge, competencies and character needed for future learning, life and employment.
