Puffin Class

Puffin Class (KS1)

Welcome to our Class page!

Puffin Class is a Year 2 class taught by Mr Barnard and Mrs Lanyon.

Our classroom is a bright and exciting learning environment and a wonderful setting in which the children begin to learn about working with more independence.  As they develop their growth mindset skill, the children work together and share their learning whilst gaining new skills and developing their existing ones.

Reading is an integral part of Puffin class and children read regularly and we ask that parents support reading at home by sharing some time together every day. Parents should listen to their child read and record this, with any notes, in their reading record. To encourage fluency, consolidation and comprehension we expect children to read a book twice before they are changed on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Daily phonics sessions take place in the morning for all children in Puffin class and we work hard to develop our learning skills as we prepare for our year 2 teacher assessments and SATs which take place in the Summer term.

Weekly spellings and times tables are posted on Google classroom each week, with a test taking place on a Friday morning. Regular homework assignments to be complete at home are posted on Google Classroom on Tuesdays and need to be handed in via Google Classroom by the following Monday.

In Puffin Class, PE is on Friday afternoon and is taught by Mrs Turner alongside the other children in KS1 (Robin Class). Please ensure full PE kits are in school every Friday, they will bring them home the same day.

Due to covid-19 restrictions, when it is safe to do so we will go on trips and take part in many activities such as assemblies, productions, and take part sporting festivals and competitions against other schools in the Aspire and Richard Lander partnerships. In the past have enjoyed visits to the beach, Falmouth Art Gallery, the Minack Theatre and The Eden Project, and we have competed in a variety of sporting festivals and competitions run by Aspire and the Richard Lander Sports Partnership.

Throughout the year, you can keep up to date via our school bulletin, our regular posts on Twitter or Facebook.

As always, if you have any questions, make contact via email on hello@cusgarne.org or telephone one of our secretaries- Mrs Holmes and Mrs Hall.
