Head of School Welcome

Welcome to Cusgarne Primary School.

Our school serves a small rural village, many outlying districts, hamlets and farmsteads. The original school was founded by the Gwennap School Board in 1877, and the original granite building forms the main school you see today.

During August 2001 a major building programme took place at the school under the Cornwall Schools Public Finance Initiative Scheme. The school now benefits from a large hall, 3 dedicated classrooms and a fabulous library with IT suite. The playground area, which has pictures, markings and a climbing wall, runs along the front and side of the school, and has a grassed area adjoining it housing an adventure playground. We also have a dedicated sports field for invasion type sports and where we hold our annual Sports Day.

We have high expectations for all of our children and ensure every child and family is valued. There are many varied opportunities for every child to enable them to reach their full potential.

There is a strong sense of belonging in this community and the school is very much at its heart. Great emphasis is placed upon a caring, family ethos, which is reflected upon in the school aims. Pupils, parents, carers, other family members and parish representatives support all aspects of school life.

We recognise and celebrate achievement, regardless of ability. Children are encouraged to take responsibility and to support one another.  We try to ensure there is an equality of opportunity for every child in school to access something extra that best suits their interests.

Our school is a happy, exciting, safe and successful place created by the pupils, staff, parents, carers and the local community.  We look forward to welcoming you soon.
